How to use iLok Cloud authorisation

Modified on Fri, 15 Mar at 10:24 AM

If you’ve been using Sonnox plug-ins for a while, your licences will probably already be activated to an iLok USB device.

All Sonnox licences that can be activated to the Cloud now feature 2 activations, which means you can keep your licence on your iLok but also have a spare activation to use with iLok Cloud, freeing you from having to keep your iLok device plugged in all the time.

Any Cloud-compatible licence with an available activation will automatically be activated when you start a Cloud session. If you would prefer to have more control over which licences you would like authorised via Cloud, then you can change it to 'Managed Mode' in the iLok Licence Manager preferences.

Please note that the iLok Cloud can only be open on one machine at one time. So If you have your Cloud session open on a different machine, that session will end, and your Cloud authorised licences will be moved to the new machine.

To start using iLok Cloud, you need to have installed the newest versions of your plug-ins.

Log in to your mySonnox portal to download the newest installers.

Starting a Cloud session in iLok Licence Manager

  1. Make sure you have installed the newest version of your plug-ins and iLok Licence Manager.
  2. Open iLok Licence Manager, and go to File > Open Cloud Session.
  3. All of your available Sonnox licences will be moved into the Cloud until you close the session, or start a Cloud session on a different computer.

Starting a Cloud session from your DAW

  1. Make sure you have installed the newest version of your plug-ins and iLok Licence Manager.
  2. Run your favourite DAW without a valid licence location available (ie without your iLok plugged in).
  3. The host will scan your plug-ins on start up, and you will be prompted to sign in to your iLok account.
  4. Once you've signed in, iLok will do a quick check to clarify that the licence in question has an available activation.
If an activation is available, you'll be asked if you want to start an iLok Cloud Session.
  5. Click "OK", and all of your available Sonnox licences will be moved into the Cloud until you close the session, or start a Cloud session on a different computer.

FAQ's

Help, I still only have one activation and the iLok Cloud icon isn't available for my licence!

If you can't see the updates to your licences in iLok Licence Manager, you probably just need to Synchronize your iLok device.

Log on to iLok Licence Manager and plug in your iLok2 or iLok3 that currently holds your Sonnox licences. In the left hand panel, you can right click on your iLok, and hit Synchronize.

This will pull the recent updates down from the iLok servers, and the changes to your Sonnox licences will now be reflected to allow you to activate to the Cloud.

How do I know if my Sonnox licence has an available activation?

In iLok Licence Manager, locate your Sonnox licences - you may need to hit the "All Licences" tab, or locate the iLok device authorising your licences in the left hand column.

Next to your licence, you will be given information about its activations, like so:

You can only activate a licence to the Cloud if at least one activation is available. If you have used both activations on other iLok devices, please remove one before starting a Cloud session.

My Sonnox licence is in the Cloud, but it's not authorising my plug-in!

Make sure you've installed the newest version of your plug-ins - older installations are not compatible with Cloud enabled licences. You can download your installers from your mySonnox portal.

Why doesn't my Sonnox licence go to the Cloud when I start a Cloud session?

iLok Cloud Authorisation is automatic for all Sonnox G5 licences with an available activation, except for the Fraunhofer Pro-Codec, Codec Toolbox, and the Sonnox Live bundle for VENUE.

If you're using G4 or older versions, you will need to upgrade to G5 for Cloud compatibility.
